The History of the Cerebral Palsy Ranch

The CP Ranch is one of few such facilities in Kansas and surrounding states serving those with a wide range of disabling conditions and provides an opportunity to improve their quality of life through discovery and/or enhancement of social, recreational, and educational life skills.

Our recreation/educational program was founded in 1964 by Mr. Jack Jonas, then President and founder of the Cerebral Palsy Research Foundation of Kansas, and Mr. Deryl Schuster, then President of the Kansas Jaycees. With the help of the Kansas Jaycees and many other dedicated individuals, they began to build a residential summer camp for children and adults with Cerebral Palsy.

Located on 151 acres of woods and meadows in Butler County, our facilities include a 28-acre spring-fed lake, 2 dorms, a cafeteria, a pool with a changing and bathroom area, a recreational pavilion, a lodge and an office. All of our buildings are equipped with central heat and air for our guests' comfort and enjoyment.

Since our inception, we have served over 12,000 campers and indirectly served an additional 20,000 through respite services. For the resident camp program campers can begin to attend at age 5 and continue indefinitely.  Our Family Camp puts no stipulation on age.
